The announcement of establishing

The Greater Toronto Kurdish House

Many Kurds have left their home "Kurdistan" for different reasons, and today have spread out all over the world. A great number of the Kurds live in North America, especially in Canada. The Kurds in Canada, and more specifically in Toronto, have not had a center to preserve and promote their culture. After numerous meetings, we have realized the importance of a Kurdish center; therefore have established “The Greater Toronto Kurdish House”. This center, with your help, aims to achieve these goals:

1. To support the struggle of the Kurdish people in attaining their right of self-determination.

2. To support the rights of Kurdish women and to promote the prevention of violence towards Kurdish women and children.

3. To promote and preserve the Kurdish culture and its language by opening and maintaining Kurdish language classes.

4. To work towards creating and broadcasting Kurdish programs using all means of mass media (TV, radio and the Internet).

5. To promote and support our peaceful culture by rejecting violence of any kind.

6. To inform the mass media and human right organizations in Canada about the situation facing Kurds in Kurdistan.

7. To encourage communication with other cultural communities living in Canada and promote awareness of Kurdish aspirations.

8. The Greater Toronto Kurdish House welcomes all Kurds, from all parts of Kurdistan, with open arms and promotes unity among them.

9. The Greater Toronto Kurdish House strives to reach out to all other communities’ mutual support and co-operation.

To accomplish these goals we will need the support of all Kurds who live in Canada and specially those in The Greater Toronto Area. Together, with your support and participation, we can build a strong community. We are looking forward for your support and involvement in this establishment.
